Futurama Reaction Paper

Futurama is an animated science fiction sitcom with the concepts of the future and time travelling. The story involves a 25-year-old pizza delivery boy in New York whose name is Phillip Fry. He accidentally freezes himself on the New Year’s Eve of 1999 and defrosts and wakes up after a thousand years.
The machine that was used for Fry makes its concept of time travel different of the usual ones. Our usual idea of time machines and time travelling is being warped through different dimensions ending up in the future world. However, the story gives the idea of preserving one’s body for a very long period of time until he reaches his desired future time.
Fry was able to conclude that he is in the future setting as his first glimpse from the window is very different from that of a thousand years ago. There are already flying vehicles, robots and aliens. Transportation tubes that can transfer a person from one place to another distant place with just the matter of seconds are also available in that setting. Even booth suicides exist in their place. There are things that are already pre-determined and even assigned especially one’s fate and permanent career. Technology is really advanced that impossible things were made possible in its setting.
In the story, Fry is taken to a fate assignment officer named Leela who is a female alien with one eye. Leela tells him that his computer-determined career is a delivery boy. He refuses to be implanted with the permanent career chip, runs away and flees into the city. He then meets Bender, an alcohol-powdered bending robot. This robot is different from the usual idea. Bender has very human flaws who seems to feel what a normal human does and is actually addicted to liquor and cigarettes just like other humans.

Fry undergoes in many things but still ends up a delivery boy. However, he’s not just a pizza delivery boy in New York. He already does an intergalactic delivery.
